Stonework
APS Senior Manager, Paul Cope-Faulkner is experienced in the interpretation and analysis of architectural stone and other stone artefacts principally of the Saxon and medieval periods.
Worked stone, whether architectural or as a functional item, is an important category of material found in archaeological sites. Paul began studying architectural stonework in conjunction with his main interest in monastic archaeology but has expanded this to include the everyday stone artefacts such as mortars and hones.
Services Include:
- worked stone identification and analysis;
- recording to an appropriate level in line with current guidelines and standards, and
- advice on discard and storage policies for large assemblages.
Paul is also a competent geologist which has aided in the identification and analysis of petrological assemblages.
